DutchCulture-ARKO International Arts Joint Fund Programme
Arts Council Korea (ARKO) has supported art organisations and artists in Korea and overseas through various services, programmes and initiatives as well as grant-based support. They have been consistently sponsoring the residency programmes at Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam and Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht, which contributed to establishing a strong reputation of the Dutch art scene and art education in Korea. In line with their activities, Korea has been included as one of the priority countries in the international cultural policy of the Netherlands since 2017. From this occasion, DutchCulture started a direct dialogue with ARKO. Celebrating the 60th anniversary of the diplomatic relationship between the two countries, the newly signed MOU between DutchCulture and ARKO in October 2020 formulates a new framework for strengthening the mutual collaboration in Dutch and Korean cultural sectors.
Based on the MOU, the two partner organisations will actively support expanding collaborative research, projects, and knowledge exchange, particularly around the theme of ‘inclusivity and/or innovation’. As part of this mutual collaboration programme, DutchCulture has designed an International Arts Joint Fund Programme with ARKO with support from the Dutch Embassy in Seoul. Through open calls from both sides, this programme will encourage establishing shared ideas and concepts between Dutch and Korean cultural and creative sectors. DutchCulture and ARKO will carry out more collaboration projects and diverse exchange activities in a variety of art forms, including visual arts, performing arts (music, dance, theatre and traditional arts), literature, as well as interdisciplinary practices and design disciplines.
