[NEDxPO③] 네덜란드 공간재생전략 연구서 출판 ─ “Dutch Placemaking Alternatives”

2018 평창동계올림픽과 패럴림픽을 맞아 준비한 NEDxPO2018의 네 가지 메인 프로젝트들을 소개합니다. :)

네덜란드는 다양한 분야에서 독창성과 자유로움을 추구하기로 잘 알려져 있습니다. 특히  네덜란드의 건축은 물과 공존해야 하는 주어진 환경에서 혁신적인 솔루션으로 다양한 재료와 관습의 틀을 깬 디자인 등을 보여주며 이목을 끌어왔습니다. 이제는 건축을 넘어 어떤 도시를 만들 것인가에 대한 고민이 세계적으로 공유되고 있는데요. NEDxPO의 메인 프로젝트 중 하나로, “자유와 혁신의 나라 네덜란드, 그곳에서 도시를 만드는 사람들”을 주제로 한 네덜란드 공간재생전략 연구서가 출판될 예정입니다. 서울시립대학교 도시공학과 김정빈 교수와 어반트랜스포머의 심층 리서치를 통해 네덜란드가 도시를 디자인하는 법을 소개합니다.

“도시를 만드는 사람들; 네덜란드의 창의적 도시재생으로의 여행”

─ 네덜란드 공간재생전략 연구서 출판 및 연계 행사

• 2018년 6월 출판 예정 (한국어/영어) + 웹 출판
• 연구 및 출판: 김정빈 서울시립대학교 도시공학과 교수 / 어반트랜스포머
• 주제: ” 자유와 혁신의 나라 네덜란드, 그곳에서 도시를 만드는 사람들”

▶ 10개의 Placemaking 사례를 통해 네덜란드의 공간재생전략 소개

▶ 사례에 대한 기존 단행본들의 물리적 디자인만을 중점으로 조사하는 것이 아닌, 사람, 과정, 협력, 제도, 그리고 물리적 디자인 요소의 복합적이고 다양한 관점의 조사

▶ 핵심 아이디어와 실행전략을 중점적으로 전달하여 2018년 한국의 도시재생에 시사점 던지기

• 배경:

네덜란드의 건축, 음악, 독특한 도시 풍경 등은 한국에 알려져 있지만, 도시재생 분야는 미국이나 영국의 사례에 비해 비교적 덜 알려져 있다. 최근 한국 도시 재생 분야는 신개발의 제한적 상황과 이에 연속 되어온 도시 재생 사업들의 한계를 겪으며 기존과 다른 방안에 대한 욕구가 높아지고 있다. 네덜란드는 이미 지난 10여 년 동안 이와 같은 과정을 지나오며, 창의성을 기반으로 한 아이디어와 이를 실현하는 혁신적인 프로세스와 툴을 통해 다양한 분야에서 자체적인 문화와 이를 담은 대안적 공간들을 자생해오고 있다. 상인정신 그리고 자유와 관용이 있는 네덜란드 사람들이 만드는 도시재생은 한국의 도시 분야의 많은 부분에 영감을 줄 수 있다.

어반트랜스포머는 “Towards Urban Transformation : Seoul International Workshop”과 논문 등을 통해 NDSM, De ceuvel, Luchtsingel 등 네덜란드의 사례를 지속적으로 한국에 소개해왔다. 출판에 앞서 심도 있는 리서치를 위해 2월 중 어반트랜스포머는 네덜란드 리서치 트립을 떠나 사례 공간을 방문하고 혁신가들을 직접 만날 예정이다. 보다 깊은 리서치와 인터뷰를 기반으로 한 출판을 통해 네덜란드의 창의적인 사례 및 혁신가들을 알아갈 수 있는 기회를 제공함으로써, 창의성과 아이디어를 중심으로 한 재미있는 도시 공간들이 요구되고 있는 한국의 현재 상황에 새로운 영감을 불어넣을 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

Dutch Culture Korea introduces the four main projects of NEDxPO2018, the Olympic culture program in the year of PyeongChang 2018.

The Netherlands, known as a free and open country, has shown its creative spirit in the field of Architecture. As the Netherlands has to coexist with water, they came up with innovative solutions constructed with unconventional materials and remarkable designs, breaking with the old traditions of Architecture. Beyond architecture, urban design and regeneration are an important matter many metropolises are facing these days. As one of NEDxPO main projects, Prof. BinKim and Urban Transformer will make a publication on Dutch placemaking Initiatives. With their in-depth research, we introduce creative and successful urban design cases of the Netherlands.

• Publication expected in June 2018 (Korean & English) + Web publication
• Partner Organization: Professor Binkim (University of Seoul, Department of Urban Planning and Design) / Urban Transformer
• Subject: “The Netherlands, country of freedom and innovation, People who make a city there”

▶ To introduce Dutch urban regeneration strategy about 10 placemaking cases

▶ Holistic research with varied perspectives on the key player, process, collaboration, institution, and design elements, rather than research of existing books focusing on the physical design of cases.

▶ To give an implication to the current Korean urban regeneration project by delivering key ideas and implementation strategies of urban regeneration projects in priority.

• Background:

Even though Dutch architecture, music and unique urban landscape are well known in Korea, urban regeneration sphere is relatively less known than USA or UK cases. Recently, in Korea, there has been a growing desire for an alternative urban regeneration approach different from the preexisting one. It is because of the restricted situation of the previous way of developing and the limitation of urban regeneration projects which have been carried out in response to the previous development methods. As the Netherlands has been already going through such a process over the last 20 years, in a variety of fields, they have been cultivating their own culture and alternative spaces that reflect the culture via creative ideas and innovative processes and tools for the realization of the ideas. Urban regeneration made by the Dutch who have merchant spirit, freedom and tolerance will be able to give inspiration to varied parts of Korean urban planning field.

Urban Transformer Ltd. has been introducing the Dutch cases including NDSM, De ceuvel and Luchtsingel and so on via “Towards Urban Transformation: Seoul International Workshop” and dissertations. In prior to the publication, in February 2018 Urban Transformer will go to the Netherlands for a profound research, and visit the locations and meet with the initiators in person. It is expected to provide a new inspiration by giving a chance to get to know about creative Dutch cases and initiatives via the publication based upon the in-depth research and interview about the Netherlands for the current Korean urban planning condition which demands interesting urban spaces based on innovative ideas.
